Renegotiating Britain’s relationship with the EU is a multi-lateral rather than a bi-lateral process. It involves all 28 Member States that make up the EU. The view from Brussels is very different to that found in Helsinki, Ljubljana, Valetta, Rome, Athens or Berlin.
Reimagining Europe’s Postcard from … series pens up the debate across Europe to show both the diversity of views held as to Britain’s relationship with Europe and also the differing perceptions on the wider reform agenda under discussion.
Rightly or wrongly, Britain has often been seen as Europe’s awkward partner, but many of the forces that have led Britain to hold a referendum are also present in other EU Member States even if they have been expressed and managed in different ways.
Postcard from … provides a popular and participatory platform for individuals across Europe to offer their thoughts on what this referendum means to them. A British exit would change Europe, not just Britain’s position in Europe.
In the first instance, Postcard from … will draw on the grassroots network of relations that exist across the Church of England’s Diocese in Europe. As one of the Church’s slightly larger dioceses this means Reimagining Europe will receive postcards from those part of Europe not part of the EU.
If you would like to share your thoughts on Britain’s decision to hold a referendum on EU membership or if you would like to share your hopes for the reform process then why not email the Blog Editor at [email protected] for further details.
